This 24th annual celebration is a free
festive gathering held on Mount
Hood that features two special events associated with the history of the
Oregon Trail,
where it traversed around the Mountainıs southern flank. Held
on Saturday during the day and late-Sunday morning
a couple of weeks before
Christmas, this is for the entire family.
The ³Oregon Trail Heritage Day²
is a festive Saturday afternoon
gathering, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., for both adults and children alike.
Featured are traditional
Christmas caroling, Folk music, free Christmas
goodies and hot drinks, horse-drawn wagon rides, plus some great last-minute
shopping
opportunities for unique historical and nature books, Huckleberry
and other Wildberry jams and specialty products made
from this special wild
land bounty. And, naturally, Santa Claus will be there on duty from Noon to
4 p.m.
The main feature, however, is ³Christmas Tales of Old Oregon² that
begins at 2 p.m., which is a unique storytelling program
that takes you from
the days of the Lewis & Clark Expedition at the rainy and cold Pacific Coast
in 1805, to the
days of the Oregon Trail and pioneer settlement, and
concluding on the slopes of Mount Hood in the early 1900ıs.
The ³Oregon Trail Heritage Tour² is held on Sunday between 11 a.m. and 2
p.m.. Historic sites and trail routes of
Samuel Kimbrough Barlowıs route
over Mount Hood are visited. From Toll Gate to pioneer campsites, graves,
and
other places of interest are visited. This free tour will be located
below the snow zone. [SPECIAL NOTE:
